Accessibility

Last updated November 2, 2026

We want everyone to be able to use our website and products, including people who use a keyboard, a screen reader, magnification or a phone with gloves on. We work toward the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, and we test each page as we build it.

How this website is built

  • Every page works with a keyboard alone, with a visible focus outline and a link to skip to the content.
  • Pages fit a phone screen without scrolling sideways, and every button and link is at least 44 pixels tall.
  • Images that carry meaning have text alternatives; decorative images are hidden from screen readers.
  • Text colors are chosen to meet contrast guidelines against their backgrounds.
  • Videos have no sound and never start by themselves if your device asks for less motion: they wait, with their player controls, for you to press play. The product tour has Back, Play and Next buttons, and every screen in it has a caption in text.

The Research Platform

Much animal work happens away from a desk, so the Research Platform's pages, tabs and dialogs are tested on a phone-sized touch screen: nothing scrolls sideways, and controls are at least 44 pixels so they work with gloved hands.
